A considered changeover starts with a clear room-by-room plan. The right checklist depends on the property and the agreed service, but a consistent sequence helps make the work easier to organise.
In the kitchen, check worktops, the sink, cupboard fronts and frequently used appliances. Remove crumbs and visible marks, and make sure any surfaces are treated with products suitable for their materials.
In bathrooms, clean the basin, taps, shower or bath and other agreed areas. Check mirrors and floors, then replenish the guest essentials specified by the property owner. Follow product labels and take care to use each product only on suitable surfaces.
In bedrooms, change the linen according to the agreed arrangements, make the beds neatly and check the room for items that need attention. If laundry or ironing is included in the service, plan for it as part of the changeover rather than leaving it until the final check.
Finish with a walk-through of the cottage. Look over the rooms from a guest’s perspective, check that agreed tasks are complete and note anything that needs the owner’s attention. A calm, methodical final check supports a welcoming arrival without relying on a rushed last-minute tidy.
