Natural texture for a quieter home

A room can feel warmer without a complete refresh. Natural textures such as linen, timber and woven materials bring subtle variation, especially when the colours and shapes around them are kept simple.

Start with what you already own. A favourite wooden tray, a linen cushion cover or a well-used ceramic piece can add texture without introducing more things. Try rearranging a few objects before deciding whether a room needs anything new.

Dried flowers can offer a quiet seasonal detail. Place an arrangement where it will not be knocked or exposed to damp, and dust it gently with a soft brush when needed. Keeping it out of direct sunlight can help preserve its appearance.

When the seasons change, refresh a small area rather than restyling the whole room. Reuse vessels and linens in new combinations, and store pieces carefully when they are not on display.

Thoughtful decorating does not have to mean buying more. Choosing durable materials, using pieces you already love and adding only what feels useful can make a home feel personal, settled and restful.
